How to Use Hot Corners on a Mac

MacOS comes with numerous features that can assist you to optimize your work and enhance your productivity, especially when you are using your laptop or desktop. You might be well-aware of most keyboard shortcuts. However, there is a certain low-key feature that you can use to run several actions. And this key feature is Hot Corners.  

Hot Corners on Mac – What are They?

The term Hot Corners refers to something that specially occurs when a user moves the pointer into a screen corner on Mac. Four Hot Corners are there and around 10 probable actions for every corner with an option to disable one corner. As a MacBook user, you can do a lot of things with the use of the trackpad or the mouse you have with it. The things could be making a Quick Note, opening the Launchpad, or enabling the display to go into sleep mode. 

Actions in Hot Corners 

Hot Corners gives you a list of actions you can perform while working on your MacBook. Here is the list of some common actions for Hot Corners:

  • Mission Control – to see what is running on your PC.
  • Notification Center – command Notification Center
  • Launchpad – launches the Launchpad.
  • Application Windows – shows what windows are open for the currently-selected app. 
  • Desktop – for clearing your desktop.
  • Disable Screen Saver – stops your screensaver from running.
  • Put Display to Sleep – makes the Mac sleep
  • Lock Screen
  • Quick Note – similar to a square, it helps start a Quick Note.
  • Start Screen Saver – runs your screensaver without waiting for it to start.

Use Hot Corners on a Macbook 

  • First, go to the Apple menu on your PC with macOS.

  • Select the System Settings app. After that, tap on Desktop & Dock. You may need to scroll down the options on your screen.  

  • Tap on Hot Corners that will be on the right. 
  • Click on the pop-up menu to each corner you are willing to use. 

  • Select the right option from Notification Center, Lock Screen, or Launchpad. 

  • Type and hold the command – Shift, Ctrl, Option, or a mix of these keys – to utilize a modifier key along with the Hot Corner. Give this command while seeing the pop-up menu. 

  • Tap on Done.
